MUZZLELOADING

Many hunters today are making the mistake of trying to use mass produced pistol bullets in conjunction with a sabot to shoot in their muzzleloaders. At muzzleloader velocities and ranges they fail to give desirable expansion and penetration. We found that our "dead-soft"™ jackets in our thinnest wall thickness (.025) produce rapid expansion and deep penetration with virtually no weight loss. In the past, many of our clients ordered bullets from us to use in their muzzleloaders and reported excellent results. After much additional research, we are introducing a complete line of bullets for use in muzzleloaders. To insure expansion, even at extreme ranges, we highly recommend using hollow point bullets with the .025 jacket. For those that are hunting elk size game and larger, we have added heavier bullets with flat points and .035 jackets to resist initial expansion at muzzleloader velocities.

Rick Brainard has hunted extensively with an in-line muzzle loader using .4515 diameter Hawk Precision bullets.  The buck above was taken at 140 yards and "dropped like stone"  with the 250 grain hollow point.   Rick also sent us video of a boar hunt.  Having taken two boar, his third (405 lb.) was in an open field when it was shot through both shoulders.  On impact the boar ran a half circle and flipped onto its side.  What followed was a textbook example of blood loss and shock.  It looked like Old Faithful.  The bullet left a cutting path that acted as a passage for blood as the heart frantically pumped its blood out of the body.

This is that devastating bullet recovered from Rick's 405lb. boar-just under the hide on the far shoulder.  It retained 96% of its weight while expanding to 192% of its normal diameter.
